"Do you want to have some tea?" is the most asked question while welcoming a guest at home or starting any chit-chat on the street (though in a business meeting, we often offer coffee instead of tea to portray ourselves more professionally 😉).

No wonder, it is the most popular beverage throughout the world and it is consumed more or less by two-thirds of the total population of the world. The obvious reason for its popularity is that anybody can make this easily within few minutes and it can be enjoyed at any time of the day throughout the year. Surprisingly unlike other beverages, it comes with several benefits.

Like many others, I used to start my morning with tea for the last few years without realizing what harm I am making to my body. Drinking tea has been considered a health-promoting habit since ancient times and modern medicinal studies have proven beneficial effects in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, anti-aging, antidiabetic, and many more.

But when we drink it empty stomach in the morning, this antioxidant-rich drink removes the water from our already dehydrated body, it may disrupt our metabolic system which may cause stomach inflammation, dizziness.

“Why have I stopped taking bed tea?”

It is understandable that even though this warm lovely beverage is very healthy, it can turn around if it is consumed in wrong way or at the wrong time. And this stands true for coffee and even green tea too. But I was not aware of all that before and was considering this as daily morning rituals until my spouse was having an acidity problem after bed tea on a regular basis.

How did I stop taking bed tea?

Then I started looking for some alternative to replace the bed tea. And the most common options I was getting are honey and lemon water or water with apple cider vinegar. But none of those worked well for us and my search was continued. Then I found cumin water. And it worked like magic. Though this is famous for weight loss drink, it really saved us from acidity and bloating problems. We felt the difference from the very first day and we never felt like skipping this for a single day.

Making Cumin water is similar to making tea with one additional step, you can skip that additional step but I would recommend not skipping that. Because I feel that is where the magical effect starts.

  1. In a pan dry roast the 1 teaspoon cumin (for 1 cup) for a few seconds.
  2. Then add 1 cup water. Boil for 2-3 mins and switch off the burner.
  3. Let it cool for 3-4 mins and grind this. (This is the additional step I was talking about) This does not have to be finely coarse. The purpose of grinding is to crush the cumin a little so you will get more essence of cumin and it will be easier to swallow the crushed cumin while drinking.
  4. Add half a tablespoon lemon juice and a pinch of pink salt. (If you don't have pink salt, you can use rock salt but no white salt.)

Are you upset after knowing that bed tea is unhealthy and can not think about starting your day without tea? If yes, then let me suggest you something. You can have your morning tea after your breakfast when your stomach is not empty anymore :).

Bonus Tip:

Along with bed tea, most of us follow another traditional habit while making tea is putting sugar and milk. You may probably know that adding sugar to tea will add a negative impact on health. Interestingly, milk in tea could be even worse than sugar. Trust me tea itself is a very tasty drink, you don’t need to add milk to enhance its taste. And you really have sweet teeth and can not avoid sweetness at all, you can use jaggery instead of sugar.
